Main features

  • 6-18 GHz cavity-resonance control
  • Flexible, electrically non-conductive silicone construction
  • 0.47% TML / 0.28% CVCM outgassing values

Product Description

Laird Eccosorb™ BSR is a thin, flexible, magnetically loaded silicone microwave absorber designed for cavity-resonance control from 6 to 18 GHz. The electrically non-conductive material combines high magnetic loss with a -40 to 170°C service-temperature range and documented low-outgassing data. It can be installed directly in front of metallic surfaces, cut to shape, and conformed to curved geometries. BSR is available in BSR-1 and BSR-2 versions, with multiple thicknesses and optional pressure-sensitive adhesive configurations.

Key features

  • 6-18 GHz cavity-resonance absorber: Current Laird product positioning covers 6 to 18 GHz for cavity-resonance control.
  • Flexible silicone construction: The thin elastomeric sheet can be cut to shape and conformed to compound curves.
  • High-temperature service: Documented service-temperature range is -40 to 170°C.
  • Electrically non-conductive: Current product data lists volume resistivity of 2 x 108 ohm-cm.
  • Documented outgassing data: 0.47% TML and 0.28% CVCM are reported per ASTM E595-07.
  • Attachment flexibility: Available with or without a pressure-sensitive adhesive option.

Applications / Suitable for

  • Cavity-resonance damping, surface-current control, coupling reduction, and reflection damping in microwave assemblies.
  • Microwave terminations, loads, attenuators, waveguides, and transmission systems.
  • Aerospace, defense, space, power-amplifier, oscillator, and down/up-converter applications.

Cavity resonance absorber

Laird Eccosorb™ BSR

Laird Eccosorb BSR is a flexible silicone elastomer absorber for cavity-resonance and EMI control in microwave assemblies. Current Laird product data positions BSR for 6-18 GHz operation with 40 dB/cm attenuation at 10 GHz, an electrically non-conductive construction, and a -40 to 170°C operating-temperature range.

Installation

Placement and conversion guidance

Eccosorb BSR is designed to function directly in front of a metallic surface. Its flexible sheet form can be cut and fitted to contoured geometry; bonding method should be selected with the intended service temperature in mind.

Placement: Install the absorber directly in front of a metallic surface for the intended absorber function.
Cutting and forming: The sheet can be cut with a sharp knife and template and can conform to contoured surfaces.
High-temperature bonding: For service temperatures above 121°C (250°F), Laird instructs bonding to most substrates with an RTV silicone-based adhesive used with a suitable primer.

Use contexts

Applications

BSR is used where a flexible, non-conductive microwave absorber can be placed near metal to damp cavity resonance, surface currents, coupling, and reflections within its documented frequency range.

Microwave cavities and enclosed RF assemblies
Eccosorb BSR is engineered to reduce or eliminate surface currents, cavity resonance, and coupling while damping reflections. Its magnetic-loss behavior and 6-18 GHz positioning make it relevant for evaluating unwanted resonant energy in metallic microwave housings and cavities.
Terminations, loads, attenuators, and waveguides
Laird identifies microwave terminations, loads, attenuators, waveguides, and transmission systems as supported use contexts. The cuttable, conformable sheet format allows the absorber to be shaped for the available internal geometry and positioned near metallic surfaces.
Aerospace, defense, and space RF electronics
Laird recommends BSR/MFS for high-reliability aerospace, military, and space applications. Its documented outgassing values, electrically non-conductive silicone construction, and -40 to 170°C service range provide concrete screening criteria for RF hardware in demanding environments.
